Hello Music Lovers:

I hope you all had a good weekend. We finally had a weekend
without rain so I finally got some much needed yard work
done. I am dealing with a few battle scars from my rose
garden, but I am quite happy with how everything turned out.

Let's get to the Music History and Trivia, shall we?

Have a great day!

Music History on this day...

In 1963, the Rolling Stones' first single -- a cover of
Chuck Berry's "Come On" -- was released in England. That
night, the Stones made the band's first TV appearance on
the British show "Thank Your Lucky Stars."

In 1966, Roy Orbison's wife, Claudette, was killed in a
car crash.

In 1967, three members of the rock band Moby Group were
arrested in San Francisco for "contributing to the
delinquency of minors" by having three schoolgirls in the
back seat of their car.

In 1969, The Who's "Tommy" entered the U.S. album charts.

Also in 1969, the supergroup Blind Faith -- Eric Clapton,
Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech -- played its
first concert, a free show in London's Hyde Park that drew
an estimated 120,000 people, including Mick Jagger, Mick
Fleetwood and Donovan. It was also the band's last British
live show.

And in 1969, Johnny Cash debuted his own network variety
show on CBS-TV.

In 1970, The Who performed "Tommy" at New York's
Metropolitan Opera House.

In 1972, the musical Grease opened on Broadway. Among the
stars who played the part of Danny Zuko was an unknown
Richard Gere. John Travolta actually made his debut in the
musical at age 17 playing Doody.

In 1975, Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown
Dirt Cowboy" became the first album to enter the Billboard
Top-200 album chart at No.1. Later in the year, John's
"Rock of the Westies" did likewise.

In 1979, Chuck Berry performed at the White House -- one
week before he was due in court to face income tax
evasion charges.

In 1984, PolyGram's Hanover, West Germany, plant produced
its 10 millionth compact disc.

In 1986, Air Supply guitarist/lyricist Graham Russell
married actress/model Jodi Varble. Four years earlier,
Varble had won tickets to an Air Supply concert in Chicago
and the chance to meet Russell backstage.

In 1987, further clashes in East Berlin between police and
youths wanting to listen as the Eurythmics performed an
outdoor concert in West Berlin near the Berlin Wall.

Also in 1987, the Los Angeles Times reported Michael
Jackson had left the Jehovah's Witnesses -- meaning he
must be shunned by relatives and friends who remained
in the sect, including his mother.

In 1991, Alan Jackson was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

In 1992, an estimated 2,000-3,000 people attended the
dedication of the sod house in Strasburg, N.D., where
bandleader and accordion player Lawrence Welk was born. A
private group restored the farm after Congress scrapped a
proposed $500,000 grant for a German-Russian museum in
Strasburg amid criticism over wasteful spending.

In 1993, Prince celebrated his birthday by changing his
name to a symbol that combined the male-female symbols,
and also by announcing he was breaking from his band, the
New Power Generation.

Also in 1993, the official groundbreaking for the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum was held in Cleveland.

IN 1994, Boston released Walk On. The follow-up to 1986's
Third Stage was eight years in the making.

Also in 1994, Grace Slick was ordered to serve 200 hours
of community service and attend four Alcoholics Anonymous
meetings after being found guilty of pointing a gun at
police in March.

In 1995, a Los Angeles judge dropped robbery charges
against Tone Loc in connection with a dispute with a
pizzaria, but prosecutors announced indictments against
the rapper.

In 1997, Beastie Boys hosted two days of Tibetan Freedom
Concerts at New York's Randall's Island. More than 40,000
fans attended performances by U2, Alanis Morissette, the
members of Pearl Jam, Oasis and REM, A Tribe Called
Quest, Foo Fighters and Pavement. The shows were dedicated
to freedom for Tibet.

In 1999, Jamiroquai kicked off its world tour in the
United Kingdom in support of the band's new CD
"Synkronized."

Also in 1999, James Eugene "Rosy" McHargue, a prolific
jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and singer, died in Los
Angeles at the age of 97. McHargue played with the bands
of Benny Goodman and Kay Kyser.

And in 1999, VH1 linked its Save The Music campaign with
NBC's "Today" show for a weeklong instrument drive. Donated
instruments were collected during the program at the "Today"
studios in New York's Rockefeller Center, for distribution to
public schools. A different musician collected the instruments
each day. Musicians included Natalie Merchant, Meatloaf,
Tony Bennett, Reba McEntire and others. Over 1,000 instruments
were collected.

In 2001, Seattle's Experience Music Project museum opened
its first international exhibition with Island Revolution:
Jamaican Rhythm from Ska to Reggae, 1956-1981. The exhibit
traced the history of Jamaican popular music from ska and
rocksteady, through the reggae explosion of the 1970s, with
many rare artifacts from Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Lee
"Scratch" Perry and King Tubby.

In 2003, Beck pulled out of the inaugural Field Day Festival
at New Jersey's Giants Stadium after a stagehand accidentally
hit him in the ribs. Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Blur and
Underworld performed.

Creed Call It Quits

Florida rockers break up after a decade

Creed, one of the most successful of the late Nineties post-
grunge bands, have decided to break up after nine
years together.

"It's kind of sad to end a chapter of your life, but it's
also exciting starting a new one," guitarist Mark Tremonti
said. "We'll always be proud of the music we made with
Creed." Added singer Scott Stapp, "Creed was one of the
most amazing journeys through music and friendship I am
blessed to say I was a part of."

Stapp and Tremonti were friends in Tallahassee, Florida,
who began writing songs together in the mid-Nineties. They
enlisted bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips,
and gave the band the name Creed in 1995. Stapp is the son
of a Pentecostal minister, and, because of the spiritual
bent to the band's lyrics, Creed were sometimes tagged a
Christian rock act, a label that never quite sat right
with the band.

But the debate mattered little to fans. The group released
its debut, My Own Prison, on independent Wind-Up Records in
1997, and the record went on to sell more than 4 million
copies. The band's follow-up, 1999's Human Clay, was an
even bigger success, topping 11 million copies sold, and
paving the way for a third smash, 2002's Weathered, which
has sold more than 6 million to date.

Tremonti, Phillips and Marshall have teamed with Mayfield
Four singer-songwriter Myles Kennedy to form Alter Bridge.
The new band will release its debut album, One Day Remains,
on August 10th. Stapp has also been busy writing and
recording. He'll contribute a new solo track to an August
31st compilation of songs inspired by the film The P
assion of the Christ, and he also plans to work with Canadian
band the Tea Party on a full-length album.

A Creed compilation is scheduled for release later this year.
