I went to add or remove programs and nero 6, nero mix and nero vision were
there--I didn't see nero player or nero multimedia player...

Any more ideas would be appreciated...

You don't need it.  You could uninstall it.  You could also go into the
right application and fix the file associations.  I think it's called Nero
Multi Media Player.
