I muted my mic in the play controls and it is no longer coming through my headphones. The speakers are plugged in to the third jack in the back and I found I that the only solution at this point is to turn them down.
The audigy with the break out box (not the one I'm currently working with) can mute speakers by using the feature where you push in the volume knob for the phones. Concerning your issue with the line in, I think you want to hear the line in through your speakers--try unmuting the line in in the play controls and make sure the volume is up in play and also in record... In that case, the simplest work around would, as you have no doubt deduced, be to simply turn the speakers down or off when using your headset. My problem also lives on the card's front pannel. I'm trying to access the auxiliary-in jacks on the front pannel. To me, logically sound should come through the spekers as they are the line out counterpoint to the auxiliary's line in.
