Which version of Sonic Stage are you using? There is now a version 3.4. In general, none of the versions seems easy to use.
I think another poster to this list, Michael Lang, has had some luck in using Sonic Stage. As an alternative, you can use Real Player+ to transfer tracks to a Sony player. You'll need to have Sonic Stage/Open MG Jukebox on your system. The Real Player interface is a little clunky, but easier to use than Sonic Stage. If you need help with it, contact me off list.
