I think that the individual needs to take a look at each, decide what they really need to do, and after all that then make the decision on how much they are willing to pay to get the editor that will do what they need to do. I really like SoundForge, but I do a lot of audio for radio programs, etc. The person simply wanting to get records to MP3 and clean the files up to make them sound good may decide that they don't need all the features of Soundforge, and that they can good enough quality with Goldwave or Audasity or something else.
