Hello tony ro whoever may happen to be reading this.
here's what's going on.
You see, i can for example put in a dvd and manually bring up say,
power dvd and i can play it.
but what I'm wanting is for the power dvd to come up automatically.
I've been told to check and see if Auto insert
is abled.
to my knoledge, I've never ever had any trouble with service pack III at
all.
In fact, when I installed the service pack III a few moons ago, it was
still up and running.
I just noticed it yesterday as a matter of fact when I was trying to do
a repair of Jaws. but that's another topic.
You do hear the drive sounding like a lamborghini star4ting up.
As I said though it doesn't automatically come up like it used to.

Are you using windows xp with service pack 3? If the answer to this is yes,
then this is a major problem. I went through a similar meltdown of my CD and
DVD-RW rom drives and had to end up buying new ones.
Let me try and explain what I hope has not happened to you because this got

In service pack 3 windows not only alters registry codes pertaining to your
CD and DVD rom drives, they also implement some early windows installer
technologies in there that are not compatible to today's packages. It's
like having an ensult and trying to put a top of the line stereo system in
it. This of course will not work and what's possibly happened is that the
old technology has rendered the new CD and DVD-rom technologies useless.
The end result of this is that you may have to do one of three things: The
first of these is hopefully the solution for your problem and that is to go
to the following link and download the patch from microsoft that's under the
fix it for me link on the webpage.

Once you're on that page, run the patch. After you have run it, check to see
if windows still sees your drives then, try to play a CD or DVD in your rom
drives. If they still don't work, re-install your rom burning software.
This is especially true if you are running any of the following:
iTunes software by Apple
Nero software by Nero Inc
Roxio Creator software by Sonic Solutions
Zune software by Microsoft
If you are using windows vista, these same steps apply.
If you have done the re-install of the rom burning software and windows
still refuses to see it or play your CD's re-install your CD-and DVD-rom
drivers. You may also have to go to the website that makes your rom drives
and check for the latest updater to your firmware. Be sure when doing this
that you get the exact make and model to avoid complete corruption of the
drives. Hope this helps.

You do hear the drive making a buzz kind of sound, then it stops.
