Hello Joann,
Yes you can put them on an external hard drive.
And yes, you will need an NLS cartridge and the USB cable in order to download the books to play them on your NLS player.
And or, you can buy a USB flash drive to put the books on too as well.
But be wear, some USB flash drives will not work to well with the NLS player. Stay away from the Sand Disc or any of those USB flash drives that has the U3 software on them. It's USB flash drives like these that throws the NLS player in to a tail spend.
My best regards.
 John.

So Kevin, in order to keep books could I also use an external drive to store them? And then in order to play them I'd need a cartridge so they can be listened to? I will be getting a player myself so wanted to understand how this is done. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Minor" <kmi...@windstream.net>

Hi Joanne.

You can't play Bard books on the PC. This is done on purpose so they can't
be copied for others not registered with Bard to use.

When your friend gets his player, he'll need either a flash drive or blank
cartridge to put the book on in order to play it in the NLS player.

If you have more questions, send 'em on.
