I totally agree, and I definitely appreciate the books that have been marked up with chapters. The only two things I'll add is that I'm not sure how much I want to slow down the process of converting taped books over to the digital format to get everything marked up. The second thing is that although DAISY marked up books are the best, even without this markup, it's still much easier to navigate around a digital book with minimal markup than it is to deal with tapes.

High Chris,
Here is what's wrong with the concept you described.
Lets say hypothetically that you had to put your book down for one reason or another, you go back to it later but you can't remember how the story line came about.
This is why I feel that jump from chapter to chapter feature is needed.
I am willing to bet that I'm not the only one that feels this way.
If you can't move back and fourth freely, it defeats the perpis of reading any book.
My best regards.
 John.

The same principle would work, but instead of splitting the tracks with an audio editor they're using the DAISY standard to mark the different chapters and headings. I haven't done this myself, or used any of the DAISY tools, but this is still a manual effort, and NLS has to cut over to doing this for all of the new books as well as convert all of the existing books over to this newDAISY digital standard. Furthermore, to keep patrons like me happy, they have to do all of this as soon as possible. Therefore, they're choosing not to put this effort into all of their existing books.

Hello Sunshine,
I could be a little off here, but wouldn't it be some way for them to seperate those chapters? I'm asking because, I can use audio editors to seperate the tracks on an old cassette and or record LP. Wouldn't the same prencible be applied to the books that are on the Bard Talk website?

when you listen to the book, they will have an announcement that tells you
that the book was taken from analog tapes.

Hello Chris and others,
If I'm downloading older books that were adapted from cassettes, how will I
know this?
I'm asking because there isn't any think on the Bard Talk website to
indicate this.

--------
You happened to download one of those books which were converted from
cassette and didn't have many markers. I have seen them work all ways.

Hello List Members,
I have a couple of questions about the NLS books.
My questions are, the books that I get in the mail on NLS cartridges, I can use the previous and next buttons to move from chapter to chapter. But within the books that I download from the Bard Talk website, using
the next button gets you from the beginning to the end of the book.
Why is it that I can move from chapter to chapter in the books that comes
to me in the mail?
And, why can't I move from chapter to chapter in the books that I
download from the Bard Talk website?
Thinks in advance.
My best regards.
