Hi! You did mention Audible.com books? Well this is only me speaking, I love my audible.com books and I've found the best way to play those is through an IOS device or similar, now I'm relying only on memory here as its 7 years ago since I owned an iPod Nano 16GB but I think I was even listening to Audible.com books on that at the time.
No need to have the absolute latest IOS device obviously so you could say look at something like an iPhone 4 or an iPod Touch 3rd or 4th generation, how much memory you want is completely up to you but 16GB should be moe than enough.
