Finally got around to re-setting-up a PowerMac 7600 (200Mhz 604e)
that I had laying around. Installed MacOS 9.1 on it.
Went and picked up the SIIG "USB DUALPORT PCI" 2-port PCI USB
adapter from CompUSA for $20. Turns out, its the same card
(same design and layout, even) as the Belkin 2-port, and $10
cheaper (I paid $19). Downloaded the USB Card support files
from the Apple website, and now the HP ScanJet 7450C works
fine (and I can move it off my PC, yay!).
A few questions:
- Anybody running a USB keyboard/mouse with a PCI USB
card, instead of the ADB keyboard and mouse?
- Recommendations for a G3 upgrade card? I'm looking
for one (new or used) 300Mhz or better.
- Where to get VRAM? I'd like to up this machine to
4Mb VRAM, or even put in a 3rd-party PCI video card
(like a GeForce 2MX) if I can find out which ones
are supported.
- System RAM. I've only got 48meg, so if anybody has
some 7600-compatible RAM for sale, please email me
privately. I'd like to avoid having to buy complete
systems off eBay to get RAM.
- System L2 cache. Will a 1Meg L2 cache simm work in
this box, or should I just concentrate on finding a
G3 upgrade card?
Thanks.
