Choose restart from the Special menu.
Immediately after the startup chime, press and hold down the "R", the "P",
the apple key and the option key for at least 3 more chimes, then release.
This will reset some of your control panels to their factory defaults, so
you may have to go in a tweak a few panels, depending on which OS you are
using.
You should zap the PRAM about every two weeks, more or less, depending on
how much you use your Mac.
