Hi Yuri!
I seem to differ somewhat with you re Gates, but no argument inferred or
implied! ;-)
As for Gates and Jobs, sure they're predators, but Gates'
enrichment/corporate success has been SOLELY as a monopolist, then a
marketeer, NOT as an innovator or engineer or (gag), "Chief Software
Architect." He's a very smart and cunning monopolist, but his contempt for
us as consumers and IT people, for Law and legitimate governments' oversight
bespeaks an unconscionable arrogance. I hope the Euros teach him better
table manners!
Jobs has made spectacular mistakes, and paid dearly for them! While Gates
has made /many/ mistakes as well, his entrenched monopolization of desktop
allowed him and M$ to blow Billion$ in R&D on dogs, yet maintain the
monopoly with inferior s/w and (illegally) attempt to leverage that monopoly
into other markets. His rip-offs of the Mac alone are appalling in their
transparency.
I would think you would be uneasy, if not offended, by Gates' conscious,
calculated and decades-long predation of small, as you put it, "...brilliant
ingeneers of all camps who can't fully realise their potential." M$ has
stifled innovation, ad nauseum. His attacks via inferior but bundled
softwares on Real, Palm, Netscape, Kodak(!), the utilities makers and
hundreds of other firms whose intellectual property have been ripped-off
(documented) make him hard to admire. Let's not forget the MANY innovative
firms that were crushed outright.
My MBA education (30 years ago, just before the "slash & burn" "Greed is
Good!" biz tactics became the rage) initially gave me a bottom-line
mentality that caused me to admire the "successes." But it also tells me
with every fibre of my being that Gates is a true rogue, with a near
psychopathic contempt for business ethics, who has jeopardized what the
computer industry - and now Internet - could be.

Heh heh, agreed, but it's fun nonetheless in the context of the Mac vs. PC
Evolution. I saw Jobs' Keynote, and Mac is evolving much faster than M$
could dream. DOT.NYET? Pleeze!
</rant> ;-)
Whoops! Gotta run to MacWorld!
Best regards,
Dick.
