I recently had the exact same problem. This happened after I added VRAM
sticks. My 7200 came with 2 megabyes of vram (two slots empty) I added two
more and when I booted up, I got the behavior that you just described. I
took the vram sticks back out and tried various methods of putting them back
in....I guess I didn't seat one of the new ones properly? Anyway, after a
bit if fiddling, my display came back.
So, try reseating your vram....it's worth a shot.
