I don't think it matters how fast your computers or HD is but the 
older Apple CD roms just don't work as well. I even have trouble with 
my 24x IDE. I actually use the CDRW to extract the CD. I've had many 
cases where I can't even extract it from the Apple CD rom, whereas 
the CDRW has no problem extracting it. Of course, you should make 
sure your CD is thoroughly clean, as any dirt or fingerprints will 
cause it not to copy or extract properly.
