This is interesting. Sonnet must have included this feature as part 
of their OSX compatibility solution. It is in their best interest to 
maintain as much compatibility as possible.

It is also possible that, since the OSX enabling software I use 
maintains USB usage without specifically enabling it, OSX itself may 
not require anything to enable the use of USB on a PCI Mac. How else 
would unsupported hardware work without modifying the system? The 
ATA66 also works.

It's an interesting question. It might just be worth a try.
