I don't know how much this will help but... I have a Seagate 4Gb Barracuda
in my 7500. The 7500 and 8500 have nearly identical motherboards. I've
had the drive in for a couple of years at least and it has worked fine.
The only problem I had was that it runs incredibly hot. I installed a
small fan to blow air over the drive which helps a lot.
