Hello
I've also got an 8500 and am looking to add an IDE hd. I'm curious what
sort of PCI card you used and what brand of HD (does it run
cool, quiet?). Thanks in advance.

Dont compare 5 yr old scsi with brand new ata/100 drives.

Ever since we could start using DMA with IDE drives the cpu utilization
dropped like a rock. That is probably why apple went with IDE (that and
the
fact they needed to start making cheaper Macs to stay profitable)

SCSI is still the fastest storage HD around (the 15k rpm ones) but the
cost
for this speed title is alot of money, expensive cards, and alot of
noise
and heat.

I slapped a 60gb 7200 rpm drive into my 8500 and its very fast. Runs
circle
around the old 2gb scsi quantum I had in it.
