Can a few list members with non upgraded x500 machines and some upgraded machines try something for me? Make a folder with around 100 MB in it, and then time it to duplicate it, if you have more than one drive, try that too. And if you could email me directly with the speed in seconds and the details of your machine, I would greatly appreciate it. I want to compare my machines here. My results are dismal, 9500/150, internal Fast SCSI (10MB/Sec, drive capable of 20 MB/Sec): Compressed file, 101MB (MP3's are great for this) was 62 seconds Non compressed folder with gobs of junk, totaling 101.5MB, 75 seconds Same drive, now with AHA-2940UW SCSI card, non compressed folder was 62 seconds. I just want to compare real world numbers of other Mac users. I don't want bench mark tests, they are meaningless for this, I just want to know a real world number for raw speed. My PC at work has SCSI 160 drives and they can do it in less than 1.25 seconds. A FAR cry from my Mac. Keeps up the speed for SCSI 160! ATA100 on another 700 MHz PC shows up at 4 seconds. SCSI160 is faster. So, if you would do this, I would appreciate it. Send info on your processor, speed and HD specs.
