Hello

about six months ago there was a mess of posts relating to the same 
question.

if my memory is correct, the bottom line was :

1. Do  not   use the port labeled "uplink" . This  is the port reserved 
only for connecting to another hub to add more ports to the system.

2. Use "straight" cables between hub and computers

3. Use "crossover" cable between hub and cable modem

the above works for me
