Hello All.
I have been following this string with some interest and wish to add
some PERSONAL comments / advice based on my experiences with CD ROM and
ebay
1. Do NOT bid/buy a CD ROM unless the seller specifically guarantees
that it came out of an Apple machine. There are "tons" of these on
ebay. There is no need to go third party(unless you were given one free
from a friend). With all the "problems" I had (have) in getting
operating systems to "work 100%" ( LinuxPPC 2000 , OS9.1 and OSX,) the
last thing you want to do is "screw around " with hardware problems!.
Spend the extra few bucks and direct replace only with apple stuff.
I bought two CD ROMs from ebay , a 12X and a 24X. Since they both came
out of macs, it was merely ; replace and "plug-n-play". Piece of cake,
as all jumpers were in place, not touched by the vendor.( verified by
comparing to the removed unit)
2. I have my old stock 4x in front of me( Matshita)( AppleCD 600i)
There are 7 jumper slots
There are four Jumpers inserted-Left to right facing rear
-first one is Parity bit
-second & third are ID slots, 0 1 = binary 3
- seventh (Last) is Term Power
albert
remember; in the Apple world there is NO free lunch
