Attempted to install a couple 128Mb (FPM 5V built with 16x4) sticks I'd
ordered fm OWC while on my lunch break today. Along with the installation I
also replace the 256K cache with a 512K. The system powered up and the new
memory was recognized in the memory control panel and everything seem okay.
Shut down and went back to work. Later, the wife went to check email and
half way thru typing a new letter the system locked up and would not
restart. When I got home I found no chime upon powering up but could hear
the hd trying to access, but nothing on the screen, but the monitor's test
pattern. Pulled ALL the old dimms and moved the new ones over to A1 and B1
slots. Didn't work. Replaced the original dimms and removed the new 128's,
kept the new cache module, everything back to normal :( Was it a bad idea
to use 16x4? OWC website says:
"These modules utilize 16x4 memory devices. This module converts the 16x4
device operation to a address type that is compatible with your computer's
memory controller. There is no performance degradation as a result of this
conversion."
And, they're a few dollars cheaper.

Thanks for any input.
Terry
