There is a web site somewhere that details the Matrox upgrade
procedure, unfortunately I cannot remember the url.
Regarding the bios chip, it must be 512 or larger as the Mac code is
larger than the PC code, and the 256k chip will not hold it.
on the Mill2 that I upgraded I had to change the chip, I replaced it
with a socket so I can easily change it back if I need to, currently I
am using a 29020 (2mb chip) as it was all I had to hand.
don't forget you need the Matrox drivers as well as the flash update,
you can get both from:
