Hold down c to boot of the CD.

Go to "Options" and select "Clean Install". Or, trash
your system folder if there's nothing worthwhile in
there.

Well, the price of a G3 upgrade card alone for your
machine is pushing pretty close to that of a used
Gossamer G3 (beige 233 desktop). So yes, if all you
want is a (more or less) up-to-date G3, you're better
off with a beige or Yosemite G3.

Well, many of us have these old Macs to begin with,
and also upgrading/hacking them is fun. Also, we tend
to swap things, which reduces the financial burden
somewhat.

Old Macs, even the compacts, are still quite useful.
They're not like PCs, where you just garage them after
3 years and toss them sometime thereafter.
