Agreed. To top it off, value of X for learning UNIX is a bit
diminished by the fact that what is called 'userland layer' is
based on FreeBSD 3.2. After 3.2 we had 3.3, 3.4, 3.5.1,
4.0, 4.1.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4. Multiply by 6 months between
releases and you will get the amount of lag. Besides, you can run
it on a $20 box from your friendly neighbourhood garage sale.
That's what I do for my home back-up running ftp server, Samba and
Netatalk on it plus other usual suspects: DNS, Apache, etc.
Bying expensive Apple hardware to run Apache et al does not make
any sense. if you have an oldish A box to waste you could install
NetBSD, OpenBSD or Linux.
