Don't know what version Macworld would have distributed - I have x86 versions of 4 (I think) and 5 from demo CDs... As far as hardware, I'm reading through the BeOS Bible, p. 170... "Mac Hardware Requirements: Not all PowerPC-based Macs are supported by BeOS. The first round of Power Macs, which had NuBus rather than PCI expansion buses, can't run BeOS. Likewise, none of apple's current Power Mac G3 systems can run BeOS (because Apple won't give Be the necessary technical information.) Nor are any PowerBooks supported, for the same reason. But all of the PCI based Power Macs shipped by APple prior to the Power Mac G3s, and all of the PCI based machines shipped by clone vendors (Power Computing, Radius/Umax, Motorola, and Daystar) are supported by BeOS, with the exception of a few miscellaneous models from Apple and the earliest models from Power Computing. " (It gives a link to the BeOS compatibility table, which is out of date, as it just shows R5 now - which is X86 only, due to not having the info for the G3 or G4 processors.) So, a 601 or 603 should work, as long as it's a PCI 601 or 603, 16 mb or more of RAM, 150 Mb minimum HD (more is better, of course) space... Where to find? Check eBay, ask around, see if you have any used software stores, advertise in the paper and in user groups... you never know. -Eric -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
