This procedure is OK, provided that your box case is truly connected to AC
house ground thru the third prong of the power cable

Check it out , with AC power OFF to the box of course, using a
multimeter(ohms). Connect one lead to the bax case and the other lead
directly to the cener screw on the   house 120V receptacle cover plate..
Measure "zero" ohms.

If you are using in-line AC switch boxes ( especially the "cheap" stuff sold
in Drug Fair) to control AC power to the box, it is possible that  ground
continuity is not there!
