Anna,
        Has your machine been opened or had anything changed inside
recently ? Or  did this show
up only after the OS change ?   I wonder if you have a bad SCSI ribbon
cable . Or possibly dirty SCSI connectors.
You might try wiggling the ribbon cable gently  at both ends to see if
anything changes.  Or , with the power  unplugged, pull the cable carefully
from the machine and using electronic contact cleaner  thoroughly on
the connectors  and pins at both ends.  You might also  want to pull the
CPU card and clean it's contact strip too.
Anyway , hardware problems sometimes seem like software problems.
