I know the 7300/180 PC has a Pentium 166MHz compatibility card in. I am
about to get a 7300/200 ands wanna know how easy to get hold of are the
PC cards and how much are they likely to cost? I would like to install
one in the 7300 to allow me to run Windows 98 to remote admin my Dad's
server/router I'm installing once I get it setup (XP remote desktop
requires Win 98 or better to connect to it) and this seems the easiest
way seeing as I don't have any Macs with enough guts to run VPC 4 or 5
yet.

"Pulls" from used systems normally cost about $20, including the two CD-ROM
cables, but, infortunately, not including the required "dongle".

The dongle is actually more difficult to obtain than the Pentium card.

With the Apple-supported PC Compatibility Card software, up to OS 8.1 can be
supported. With a patch to Open Transport, up to OS 8.5.1 can be supported

A product called pcSetup 2.0 was released as both a "test drive" and a sold
(licensed) product. It was supposed to officially support OS 8.5.1 and OS 8.6.

I downloaded the "test drive" of pcSetup 2.0, but it would not work for me on
OS 8.5.1, so I abandoned it.

Later, I had to move to OS 8.6 and I was surprised to find that the Open
Transport patch also worked on OS 8.6.

I did not retry pcSetup 2.0.

Under the above circumstances, only Win 3.11 and Win 95 are supported (oh,
and DOS).

Now, with the recent release of pcSetup 2.1.7 as a freebe, up to 9 and Win 98
can be supported.

Get pcSetup 2.1.7 from:

http://www.pcsetup2x.com/

I am using pcSetup 2.1.7 under OS 8.6 with no problems.
