>[6500] internal modem ... [rumored to be] not working in OS 8.6! > >Will it work in older 8.1 etc?
I suspect this rumor may be related to the end of support for Apple Telecom drivers. For MacOS 8.5 the Apple Telecom (v3 ?) software stopped being automatically installed, and for 8.6 onward, Apple TeleComm was no longer supported, let alone available in an Extras Folder. Apple Telecom software was required for GeoPort modems, but perhaps not required for your particular modem, especially if you have a Global Village CommSlot-II modem. Not all CommSlot II modems were GeoPorts: vis-a-vis the Beige G3 CommSlot-II modem is tacitly supported by Apple in MacOS X. You should be fine with MacOS 8.1 or 8.5, and probably even 8.6. I used Apple Telecom 3 with MacOS 8.6 for months, until a G3 hardware upgrade disabled GeoPort modem compatibility with any OS. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
