I agree. Start with a G3/400 from XLR8. Since XLR8 uses a unique ZIF "carrier" upgrade card, you can easily stick in a 500Mhz+ G3 or even G4 down the road when the prices come down on them, all without losing much of your original investment. XLR8 will even take your old chip back as a trade-in. A 400Mhz G3 running OS 9 is right snappy. Beware of Powerlogix 500Mhz boards; some are actually 450Mhz chips overclocked to 500Mhz and then labelled with a 500Mhz sticker. This was a lousy move on Powerlogix' part, but aside from that they make pretty reliable boards. If you buy from OWC, they let you know which ones are which. Sonnet is a pretty good upgrade too, and really cheap. The main thing is to get a 1MB cache instead of 512k cache model --- double cache makes a noticeable difference in speed at any processor speed. -- --Chris PM 7500/604e 200Mhz 4 gig SCSI 256 megs OS 8.6 (This machine rocks!) -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
