I was running IE5 and tried to go back to the previous page. All pages quit and IE spontaneously quit without any warning message. Tried IE desktop icon, but this only began flickering. Tried to open a new window; option not highlighted (which is why I decided program had quit) and quit option wasn't even in File menu.
Tried to disconnect via Disconnect Open Transport icon, as menubar icon was telling me I was still connected; THIS icon began flickering. Then tried another application icon... which also flickered.
