Are you talking about the ROM slot or the Cache slot? The ROM slot should be
empty. Your 8500's ROM is soldered on the underside of the logicboard. The
slot was left there to facilitate any future ROM upgrades, which there weren't.

Now if you are talking about the Cache slot (in between the memory slots) You
should have a cache dimm installed. If you upgrade to a G3 or G4 processor,
you should pull your cache.
