Everywhere I've read, including MacGurus, suggest you de-interleave memory with G3 and G4 upgrade cards. This is not a "feature" of the XLR8 SSE only. The only problem I see is if you have maxed out 128MB sticks, which would force you to replace at least one with a smaller 68MB stick to force de-interleave.
