CPU speed is much over rated by the marketing folks (they want to sell
new faster CPUs)...

BUS & memory & video speed and I/O are the limiting factors.

The CPU can be 4 gig, but if the BUS is 50 meg the CPU will spend most
of its time waiting
for something to do.

OverClocking just causes the CPU life span to decrease because of the
thermal stress.

1. Processor "efficiency" is important (ie: G3 is not as good as G4).

2. All I/O (video, storage, network) should use the fastest BUS available
to the box.

3. IDE will generally NOT multitask, but SCSI generally will.

4. Faster Video can greatly increase the response of many slow systems.

5. Do NOT use "hubs" for Networking, "switches" are more efficient.

6. A 25% increase in BUS speed will normally result in more speed than a
25% increase
in the CPU speed using the same BUS speed.

7. An increase in total physical memory can provide significant speed
improvements unless
the present memory far exceeds the computers real needs & Slow memory
= slow computer.

SUMMARY: Balance all of the aspects of your computer, don't get suckered
into thinking only one
         thing matters.
