I've got an 8600/G3/400. I've got an old Epson Stylus Pro plugged in and I've had no problems with the Finder quitting or the computer restarting on its own. But I've never shut down the 8600 with the printer on and plugged in. All the computer's peripherals are turned off (including SCSI) until I need them.
