People on this list are very helpful and many a Mac Wiz here will give great suggestions. I have greatly benefited by turning to this list for advice each time I enter into a new phase of extending the life and usefulness of my PCI macs. Quite often, however, suggestions made assume that the inquirer has a certain expertise level or a system with substantial upgrades already and basic tid bits of info. get left out. In your case, as others have said, yes, cards are inexpensive and you can get a USB or combo USB/Firewire card. However, these cards require OS 8.6 and many combo cards I have seen say you need 9.0 or above. And if your sister is not running 9.0 but wants to install it (then go for the 9.1 upgrade, too) she is definitely going to have to consider buying more RAM. Even for 8.6 she should install more RAM.
