A 1 gigabyte disk is small, even for OS 8.1.  You can get a 10 gig disk for about
US$60 on the Web, and I would recommend that.  OS 8.1 doesn't require as much disk as
later OS's, and if you don't plan to install a whole lot of 3rd party extensions or
control panels, 200-250MB should be enough on a 1 gig disk.  On a 10 gig disk, I'd
give it at least 1GB.  Applications and files should be divided in a 75:25 ratio,
unless your dad plans to create some very large graphic files.  Then, perhaps a 65:35
division of the remaining disk would be more appropriate.  This is just my opinion so
don't take it as gospel.  Hope this helps.
