Strictly speaking, he doesn't need to upgrade the JetDirect. Once 
Postscript is installed (something I forgot about) he can connect to the 
laserjet, you just have to give every machine on your local network an 
IP address. Then you can create a LPR printer via the Desktop Printer 
Utility, run it, select Laserwriter 8, and in the list select 
Printer(LPR). Select the PPD for the HP5, and in the Internet Printer 
part enter the IP address of the printer (no queue name is needed)

Then save the printer as a new desktop printer.

Voila'

I know this works because this is how *all* the macs on our network 
print to the various Networked printers.
