I would suggest trying to upgrade to IE 5.1.4 as the 5.0 version had 
issues.   Also, you have introduced a large variable by installing 
the OS from an iMac disk.   It could be that is part of your problem. 
As far as how the drive sounds, as long as you can boot from it, the 
disk is probably working Ok.    Do you have a disk check program you 
can run on it to test the disk (Norton, TechTool, etc.)?
