I've had a couple Macs do this, it's generally fixed by a PRAM zap.
Apple-Option-P-R just as the startup chime chimes, wait for it to chime
a couple more times.

If that doesn't do it, toss out the Sound prefs

Subject: no sound

I recently installed a 7500 mobo in my 7200 case. Now I get
the beep when the machine is turned on, but no more sound
after that. I tried increasing the volume on the control strip and
the control panel, but it goes back down to 0 by itself. I don't
have any speakers attached...just the internal one. Do I need to
install some drivers for the 7500 mobo?
