I have an old NewerTech g3 upgrade. The cache will not enable. The Newer
control panel tells me that the speed at which I am trying to run the cache
is too fast (or something like that). I've tried other cache utilities - no
luck.

It did work for a short time, but like a dumas I took it out of the machine
and it has not worked since. Any thoughts?

I have had NewerTech G3 cards which worked when first installed, but later
suffered from SCDS, "Sudden Cache Death Syndrome".

Such a card will not operate at all with the MaxPowr control panel as that
control panel expects the in-line cache to be functional.

Those cards will, however, work without the control panel, in which case they
are being run as a very fast 604e, which just happens to execute the G3
instruction set, and will report itself as a G3. Any performance boost will
be strictly a function of how much on-motherboard cache one's machine has.

In this specific case of a failed MaxPowr card, having 1 MB of on-motherboard
cache would probably be advisable.

But, as that 1 MB cache card would likely cost more than a replacement
MaxPowr card, the most cost-effective solution would be replacement of the
MaxPowr.
