Question: will Hard Disk Toolkit allow me to force such a format? I
have HDT 1.-something which I haven't used in many years and have to
dig the diskettes out from some bin. I doubt 1.x will do this (but I
don't know for sure).

Older editions of HDT will indeed allow you to manipulate the drive in way
the current version won't.

That's but one reason to keep older versions, say, 2.5, around ... to deal
with the "problem" drives.

Hell, IIRC 2.5 would even let you low-level format some EIDE/UATA drives
which the manufacturer claimed *couldn't* be low-level formatted.

In general, the ST-15150 was one of Seagate's better drives, although it is
1.6" high and it does burn lots of power, and hence places a high cooling
load on the 'puter. However, Q950, WGS 95 and WS 9150 installations with the
infamous "five drive shelf" can and have supported FIVE ST-15150Ns in actual
installations.
