Howdy back,

Sounds like your problems may be a bad battery. Take it out and put
some test leads to it to see if its putting out 3.6 volts--if it's
under 3 volts it's definitely in need of replacement.

When inserting some cards -and certainly a processor, press your cuda
button and let go. Some folks say you should do this before you put a
processor in--I not sure. I don't know if your mother board has a
cuda button on it, but if it does, you should either press and hold
that down for a few seconds--or at least press command-option-"P"-"R"
keys simultaneously when you hear the boot-up chime. When you hear
the chime again, let go of the keys. You will probably have to reset
your system clock.

I've also found that leaving the battery out while taking a walk, or
a coffee break, and then putting it back in after I get back has done
wonders for the mother board's bios as well as my own personal bios
;^). This I sometimes also do with Award or AMI bioses on Wintel
boards when they are giving me heck.
