For a microphone alone your only real choice is a PlainTalk.  This 
mic uses an extra long connector that has an additional contact for 
power.  Someone makes a preamplifier that uses this connector and it 
works with other microphones.  You can also just plug in a stereo 
mini plug with a line level signal and use it (from a CD player, VCR, 
etc).  Othere than that adapter the other way to hook up a mic is to 
use a conventional microphone preamp.
