The biggest problem with the lists -- and we run over 30 of them -- is the incredible success of some of them. I can't be the only one overseeing the lists, so we have appointed 1-3 helpers (list nannies) to help out. Each of us is an individual. Each sees things differently. Some are a bit more lax, others a bit more strict. Some get off on certain issues. I get off on people who quote too much. We attempt to achieve consensus in managing the lists, not a by-the-book legalism. We are working on some better defined guidelines about when to temporarily block someone from posting and when to outright ban, but they have not been cast in stone. If you're used to living in a Western democracy, you should be used to double standards. One party wants us to think and act this way, the other wants us to take a different approach. Where there is diversity, the options exist along a continuum between absolute tolerance and absolute fascism. We're trying to find a middle path, but there will always be confusion.
