The memory that you have installed, is there a 128 meg DIMM there? Its a common complaint with G3 and G4 upgrades that the 128 meg DIMMs just aren't up to the task of handling the data flow. I had to sell my 128's and replace them with 32 meg DIMMs to prevent freezes and errors.
If not is the PRAM battery dead/dying? This too is a common cause of startup problems. Third choice. Check all the connections. Unplug and replug the drives in, reseat the ram. Sometimes things get loose in shipping.
