I have a 9600 with Newer G3/500 and the only failing of the card is that it is sensitive to memory, and demands high quality memory. Ask the seller if he added any memory recently. Best bet would be to remove the last memory just added in.
Starting the computer up with the space bar down was trying to launch OS 9's extension manager. It could have changed the extensions that are enabled when it started, and is now crashing you computer earlier in the boot process. With the shift key down, you can definitely boot a Newer G3 equipped Mac, but the L2 cache is disabled. >Hello friends-- > >I hope that start is not too presumptious of me--I have been following the >list for over a year now and have learned a lot--thanks. > >Now I have a problem--just got the 8600/300 with a Newer Tech G3/500 >processor card from eBay.
