I have found the CC clean merge to be very helpful. I used it to install my 9.2.2 update and it went very well. It knows which extensions are part of 9.1 and should not be moved, and displays a very nice window allowing you to control exactly how the merge will be done. The one problem that cropped up with my 9.2.2 install was that the Monitors control panel didn't install for some reason. I ended up using Tome Viewer to manually install it from the 9.2.1 tome.
