Lee, This came from the Apple developer website: AWAC Sound IC 2 The audio waveform amplifier and converter (AWAC) is a custom IC that combines a waveform amplifier with a 16-bit digital sound encoder and decoder (codec). It conforms to the IT&T ASCO 2300 Audio-Stereo Codec Specification and furnishes high-quality sound input and output. For a description of the operation of the AWAC IC, see Power Macintosh DAV Interface for PCI Expansion Cards. A PCI expansion card can transmit digital audio to the AWAC IC by way of the DAV connector.
