Any Mac motherboard is going to require some metal work if you want
the rear ports to have proper holes. While the ATX case is a
standard, when one gets to the rear motherboard ports, all the
standard specifies is a big rectangular hole. It is up to the
motherboard manufacturer or end user to supply a piece of sheet metal
which fills the rectangular hole and has holes of its own for the
motherboard ports in back.

I created a template for this piece of sheet metal for the PowerTower
Pro. The piece of sheet metal is known as an IO Gasket or EMI Shield
in the PC world. The template is at: http://www.io.com/~trag and
then look for PTP_template. It's a desktop screen shot so your
browser won't be able to open it, you'll need to download it and open
it with something that does PICTs. There are scale lines on it so
that you can print it out at the correct size so that you'll have a
paper template to work with. There's a more complete package of
this template with a ReadMe and everything on MacGurus ftp site.

On my site there's also a file called atcxgsk.sea.bin which is a
(PDF?) file containing a drawing of the rear IO Gasket for the Umax
S900 and J700. Printed out to the proper scale it would be helpful
in making a rear gasket for those motherboards. The S900 and J700
also fit easily in an ATX case.

In fact the machine I'm using now is an ATX server case with six
front 5.25" bays and a 400 watt ATX power supply. From time to time
I trade between an S900 motherboard and a PowerTower Pro motherboard
by just swapping the motherboards, trading out the IO Gasket, and
installing an adapter dongle on the ATX power supply for the S900
motherboard. Instructions for building the dongle are in the file
Umax_ATX_PS.sea.bin on my site. This file is also available on
Macgurus ftp site. It appears that PowerOn has some pre-made
dongles for sale.
